Today’s Modern Street Hemi Shootout featured racer is Mitch Weinberg, who has been racing his 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat named “Panda” with the MSHS for the past four years, winning once along the way as a member of Team HHP.
Mitch points out that he enjoys racing, the adrenaline rush that comes with it and all of the great people he has met through the sport, but all of that pales in comparison to the positive impact that drag racing has had on his relationship with his son. Most people in the modern Mopar community, particularly in the MSHS and Hellcat groups, know Mitch’s son, Evan. Mitch points out that racing has helped to bring them much closer, and that is more important to him than any racing acclaims. “Racing is fun, exciting, expensive but nothing can take away from what he has done for my son and I,” said Weinberg. Mitch also thanks his chief mechanic and good friend Mike Sudul for all of his help over the years.
Mitch Weinberg’s 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is powered by a BES-built 376-cubic inch Hemi, topped by a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger, fitted with a nitrous oxide system and tuned by Josh Schwartz at High Horse Performance (HHP). Power is sent towards the rear wheels by means of an 8HP90 transmission built by Suncoast SHR, a Hemituner billet differential and Driveshaft Shop driveshaft and axles. Like the engine, the car was built by HHP.
Weinberg’s best run was an 8.86 with the old setup, but with the newest BES engine, he expects to go faster in 2022. Helping in that effort is an array of new suspension bits from AAD. Aside from going faster, Weinberg’s goals for the 2022 racing season are to competitive in the MSHS 8.50 class while becoming one of the top 5 quickest street-driven Hellcat cars, but after taking last season off to complete the current build, Mitch points out that his biggest goals are to “stay whole and have fun in 2022”.
