Today’s Modern Street Hemi Shootout featured racer is Ed Springstead, who has been racing his “Sykotic Racing” 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat since he got it 7 years ago. Springstead has been participating in MSHS events for the past 6 years and over that time, he has taken home 5 class wins and a total of 16 awards.
In addition to MSHS events, Springstead has participated in Challenger Fest and Hemi Fest in past years and he plans to do so again in 2022. He also won the Diablosport Horsepower Wars event in 2021, but he points out that the allure of the MSHS is about more than just racing.
“MSHS is a great series to learn and get started as a rookie, along with a great group of people to race and hang out with.”
Springstead’s 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat was built by Louisiana Performance and High Horse Performance. It is powered by a BES 6.2-liter Hemi, topped by a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharged, fitted with a nitrous system and tuned by Josh Schwartz of HHP. The ZF 8-speed transmission has been built by Brian Carter at Sun Coast to handle the big power and it is paired with one of AJ Berge’s gorgeous billet differential setups. A Driveshaft Shop driveshaft and axles help get the power to the wheels.
Springstead’s Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has run a best quarter mile time of 8.26 at 166 miles per hour.
During the off-season, Ed Springstead added a new nitrous system and a new parachute, so he made the car a little quicker and a little safer. He goals for the 2022 Modern Street Hemi Shootout series are to bring home more wins in the 8.50 class and to possibly take a shot at the Outlaw Class as well.
