May 2022 Featured MSHS Racer

Today’s Modern Street Hemi Shootout feature racer is Sumit Goyal, who has been racing this B5 Blue 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat since he got it new back in March of 2016. Goyal has been participating in MSHS events since 2017 and his best finish is a runner-up spot in the Outlaw class as a member of Team HHP.

Goyal started racing in 2016 at his local drag strip, running against “Impala guys” when his car was running in the low 10s. He entered into a Big Dog Heavy Car event and ended up winning, which came as a big surprise as it was his first time competitively drag racing. He credits Josh at HHP with his early success, as the car ran consistent 10.03-10.09 with a 2.85 pulley and a 93 octane tune. In the semifinals, he took on one of the event favorites and struggled a bit with the pro tree start, leading to a great heads-up, door-to-door win. Goyal also won the Diablosport Horsepower Wars Factory Forced Induction class in 2021, allowing him to race against NHRA Top Fuel driver Leah Pruett. She was driving Diablosport’s shop car and Sumit beat her in his B5 Blue unicorn. Goyal was also the split winner at a Streetcar Takeover event in 2021 when the event ran late and he split the pot at Hemifest 2021 due to rain, but he was also the quickest car remaining in the field after eliminating Redeye Racing.

Goyal’s Hellcat Challenger is powered by a 400 cubic inch Hellcat Hemi topped by a Whipple 3.0 Drag Pak supercharger and fitted with nitrous oxide, built by Allpar Garage. Sumit does some of the tuning himself with assistance and input from Josh Schwartz from HHP. He points out that tuning in cooperation with Josh has played a big role in his progress. The power is sent the rear wheels by means of an Allpar Garage-built factory ZF 8-speed, Driveshaft Shop carbon fiber driveshaft, DSS axles and a Redeye 3.09 differential.

Sumit Goyal’s 2016 Hellcat Challenger has run a best quarter mile time of 8.63 at 162 miles per hour, but it should be noted that he ran that number at Summit Motorsports Park in Ohio in July heat, with a DA of 3000 feet.

During the off-season, Goyal has installed the Intercooler Chiller System build by IC Chiller, Allpar Garage will be adding a Fore fuel system and the car will be tuned to run Ignite 114. His goal with these upgrades is to go faster and based on his calculations, his B5 Blue Hellcat Challenger will be in the low 8s this season. He plans to attend  MSHS events, Street Car Takeover, Moparty and Diablo Horsepower Wars at the moment, pointing out that he has mostly done R&D racing in the past, but in being called out by people who have said that he can’t actually race, he will have a busier racing schedule this year.
